I create one-off accessories and homewares inspired by rural life, which normally includes pieces of free-motion machine embroidery.
All my pieces are handmade by myself at J.Calvert Designs and I only use the most natural fabrics and materials.
I have a big passion for being as environmentally friendly as possible with my textile work by only using natural materials like linens and wools and all my embroidery threads are now natural and biodegradable.
Even my cushion pads are uk made and stuffed with sheep's wool instead of polyester fillings! BUT different fillings can be obtained if wool wasn't what you required. I strongly believe that if I'm inspired by the countryside then my work shouldn't be helping destroy it!
I'm 24 years old Self-taught artist living in rural Suffolk.
All my pieces are free-motion machine embroidered which is like painting with threads. So each embroidered piece is a original work of art.
I'm also creative in other mediums and like to paint, carve spoons and make seasonal wreaths. I do sell other products alongside my textiles.
Raw, Natural and rustic is my style of design.
